As a fourth grader, students are expected to complete homework each night in spelling, math, and reading. The homework that is given supports what your child is currently working on in the classroom. It is meant to reinforce the material the students have learned and give me an idea of who is struggling and needs more support. Students should be able to complete their homework independently. You may offer some guidance and support, but if you see that your child is struggling and does not understand the homework please let me know so I can reteach the skill the next day. Spelling and math should take no more than 20 minutes to complete each night. If you have any concerns about the amount of homework that your child is receiving please let me know.
What will be handed in?
Spelling: Three spelling assignments should be completed each week and turned in on Friday.
Math: Math homework should be handed in daily.
Reading: Students should be reading for 30 minutes each night. A reading log went home to help track your child's reading. If the reading log is returned once it is complete, students will earn a special prize! In fourth grade, students are held accountable for missed homework and it will have to be made up. Completing and turning in homework is yourchild’s responsibility. If a student misses an assignment a “Missed Homework Slip” will come home and will require a signature. If missing homework assignments becomes a recurring issue I will contact you personally and discuss the matter. Lastly, life happens--in the event that your child is unable to complete homework (family in town, sick, etc.) please just write me a quick note.
